Status Quo and Project Solution:
In Malta, waste management and coastal pollution are growing challenges. Public awareness of sustainability and circular economy practices is still limited, contributing to environmental degradation. The SEA-EU GAP project seeks to tackle these issues by using discarded materials (metal, plastic, wood) to create large-scale sculptures for public spaces.
These sculptures will raise awareness about waste reduction and sustainability while promoting community engagement and cultural identity. The project directly aligns with SEA-EU topics, focusing on environmental conservation, education, and fostering collaboration among local communities and universities.
Project Aims and Activities:
- Raise Awareness: Educate the public about waste reduction and circular economy.
- Promote Sustainability: Showcase the potential of repurposed materials in art and urban design.
- Engage Communities: Involve local residents and students in creating sculptures.
- Celebrate Culture: Integrate local cultural elements into the artwork.
- Key Activities: Sculpture creation workshops, public installations, educational campaigns, and collaboration with local authorities for site selection and permits.
Project Plan: Main Steps and Milestones

Practicability, Impact, and Dissemination
The project will be documented through photos and reports, capturing community engagement and environmental benefits. Feedback will ensure flexibility in execution and guide future projects. Partnerships with local authorities reduce risks, ensuring smooth implementation.
Students across disciplines (art, environmental science, and engineering) will gain practical experience, and the project will provide a scalable model for other SEA-EU cities, fostering long-term sustainability and cultural awareness.
The project will contribute to sustainable urban development and create lasting positive impacts on local communities.
